Zachary Edward “Zack” Snyder is a very talented
American filmmaker. He has the art of making visually stunning sequences
which is a pure visual treat for us to watch. He can tell us a story or
a particular sequence without any dialogues between the character’s.
For example, the opening sequence of Batman v Superman had no dialogue
between the characters, yet we understood what was going on and it was
an integral part of the story.
Zack Snyder kick started the DC Extended Universe aka DCEU in 2013 with Man Of Steel, followed by Batman v Superman (2016) and the upcoming Justice League (2017). The trilogy is centered around Superman but also focuses on rest of the characters. With all due respect to Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner, Snyder’s 2013 Superman reboot, Man of Steel, was the first time I really believed a man could fly. The purposes and pitfalls of super-heroism are more thoughtfully explored in Man of Steel, in which Superman is unambiguously positioned as a Christ-like outworlder, here to shoulder the burden of humanity’s sinful ways. Snyder frames his hero, played by Henry Cavill, in front of stained-glass windows, and shows him stretching his arms wide in a cruciform pose. Man of Steel’s two set-piece brawls, in Smallville and Metropolis, aren’t just enormous – they’re beautiful, even dance-like, with a towering, Triumph of the Will athleticism. And that’s what i saw in Batman v Superman, and it’s something no other director is better placed to deliver. Snyder has also acknowledged the need for a stronger female presence in the male-dominated superhero genre.

Man Of Steel : From a boy scout to an Edgy Superman, a change I was happy with. When I first heard the name of the movie I thought to myself ‘Why Man of Steel’? Why not Superman or any other name?. When I questioned my other friends they all said the same thing, Man of steel means he can deflect bullets and he is super strong. But that was obvious right? But, Then I saw the movie and i realized that Man of Steel is about Superman’s believes rather than his physical strength. He had a tough life from his childhood, getting bullied, being called a freak, being afraid to use his superpowers thinking he could hurt someone, loosing his father, all because his father believed the world wasn’t ready for superman and turned out he was right all along and Clark chose to be the person what his father intended him to be. Then he found out his real parents and learned his true origin, he met his real father and through him he learned that being Superman is not a choice but a responsibility. But he never became Superman because he wanted to, but it was a responsibility that was given to him. A choice between two of his fathers. Then the word witnessed Superman and it changed everything which is continued in the sequel Batman v Superman.
Batman v Superman : Batman v Superman is not Batman fighting Superman but rather, both hero’s understanding of each other. Batman’s first view of Superman was during the destruction in Metropolis and Superman came to know about Batman as a vigilante who takes law in his hands. Superman was treated either as a God like figure or illegal immigrant, but never as one among them. Clark felt as a human only when he put on the glasses. Batman went to a darker path as he saw the death of Jason, he was powerless to stop the metropolis destruction and all his allies has left him. This helped Lex to manipulate both the hero’s to fight against each other. Lex was tortured by his dad when he was a kid and God did not save him from his dad, he hated the term God or whoever represented it. When people saw Superman as a God, Lex saw him as the devil. He did everything to expose Superman as a fraud and did even manage to kill him. Even though people hated Superman, he still helped them, even when he lost faith in them, he came back. He even sacrificed his life for them.
Justice League : Superman’s rebirth. When he comes back, he will have eliminated all the doubts that he had in him as well as in the humanity. He will once again fly across the sky as a symbol to all.
The fascinating thing about this trilogy is that it has the real world implications. Man of Steel showed us a story about some people, a civilization. They lived on a planet and used up all the resources and destroyed the planet, and they thought the way to solve the problem was just to go to another planet. We still live the life as what other want us to be, rather than what we want us to be. Batman v Superman showed us every step you take whether its good or bad, will have political implications. People can be easily manipulated into hating one another. People with power doesn’t have to obey anyone. Superhero movies doesn’t have to be only fun all the time, where there are no consequences and you can throw a joke at serious moments. It can also be darker and can have a real world implication. When a fight happens, destruction happen & people will get hurt.
The real example is Zack Snyder himself. A guy who gets hated by critics and haters for everything simply because they did not like his movies. They did not leave him alone even during his family tragedy. He gets called out even in the reviews of movies which he did not even direct. But Zack Snyder cares for his fans and dedicates his work to them. A huge respect for him.
